Welcome to Plantations of South Carolina, where you will find information about more than 2,000 South Carolina plantations and the free and enslaved people who lived and worked on them.
I am your hostess Mrs. Johnie Rivers. As a long-time volunteer at the South Carolina Historical Society, I have spent years researching South Carolina plantations.
Plantations of South Carolina is an ongoing collaboration - I welcome your contributions of photographs, documents, links, citations and other information related to South Carolina plantations and the people who lived and worked on them.
I also welcome corrections, no matter how minor, to the information presented here. If you would like to contribute or send feedback, please write to me at plantationlady@gmail.com. As we share our knowledge, records and photos, this site will become ever more valuable for those researching South Carolina history and genealogy.
I hope you find the site useful and easy to navigate. You may use the features on the left of this page to search for plantations, or to browse plantations listed by county name.
I have for many years researched South Carolina plantations and have used many references. I have tried to list the information as accurately as I could and give credit to those whose references I used. If I quoted you and did not give you credit, it was not intentional and if you will call it to my attention, I will be happy to give you credit for your contribution. This project, which grew out of my love of plantations, is a service to all those who live/lived on plantations or have relatives who did.
Welcome, please enjoy, and please let us hear from you!
This website is hosted by the USF Africana Heritage Project, an all-volunteer research project sponsored by the Africana Studies department at the University of South Florida.
